The Markets of Urban Supply

1931

Birmingham was beginning to recover from the Great Depression. The $1 million Birmingham Airport had just opened. Dr Pepper opened a new plant on 2nd Avenue. And, the 14th Street underpass was opened to better connect the north and south sides of the city.

Bulk goods to supply the growing city’s needs

were flowing in and out by rail and truck

to warehouses in the industrial flats south

of the tracks that bisect Birmingham.

Everything from automotive parts to wholesale groceries and lumber was stored in what became known as the Wholesale Warehouse Loop (West).

The development and redevelopment of these warehouses occurred as the decades passed. They have the style typical of urban warehouses that emphasize function over form. This makes them ideal for a myriad of uses by a new generation of companies.

2023

Our vision is to return these warehouses to the vibrancy and utility of days past to again have them supply the goods and services Birmingham’s urban core needs today.
